The spread of COVID-19 (the coronavirus) has once again tested our resilience, and we would like to take this opportunity to extend our thoughts to those who have been affected. The rapidly changing situation with regards to COVID-19 has affected people, businesses and economies everywhere. It is difficult not to be overwhelmed with impact on such a massive scale and our thoughts go out to all those affected, whether in terms of health or their daily income.

In troubling times such as this, we can take to heart that we have faced challenges like coronavirus before – and we have prevailed.

In this context, &Beyond’s priority remains the wellbeing and safety of all our guests and staff, as well as the communities surrounding our lodges. While it is difficult to plan in the long term, as things remain in a constant state of flux, we have put together a plan that we believe allows our guests a measure of certainty for the future, while still allowing us to care for the land, wildlife and people that depend on us.

South Africa

✅ International borders open with restrictions

All nationalities are welcome, subject to visa requirements and Covid-19 protocols. Travelers must produce a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours from the time of departure from country of origin. This must be issued with the lab’s name indicated on the test results. While digital forms of the test are being accepted at ports of entry, we recommend also traveling with a printed certificate. Children under five are not required to present a PCR test. An obligatory health questionnaire, which can be downloaded here, must be completed not more than 2 days ahead of departure to South Africa. When leaving the country again, another questionnaire will need to be completed at this link.

Namibia

✅ International borders open with restrictions

Guests from all countries are able to enter Namibia, provided they present a negative SARSCOV-2 PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test result not older than 72 hours. If the test is older than 72 hours, guests will be subject to supervised quarantine at a designated quarantine facility for a period of seven days.

Zambia

✅ International borders open with restrictions

All arriving guests including children must produce evidence of a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based SARS-CoV-2 negative test conducted within 72 hours prior to departure from the country of origin. All guests from countries deemed to be at a high risk of COVID-19 will be subjected to COVID-19 testing at points of entry even if they have a negative PCR test certificate. Testing at the points of entry will be conducted at the guests’ cost. Guests who transit through high risk countries are not considered high risk if the transit time is less than 24 hours. Guests are to monitor themselves for 14 days post arrival and report any symptoms immediately.

Zimbabwe

✅ International borders open with restrictions

Guests will be required to have a PCR COVID-19 Clearance Certificate issued by a recognised facility no more than 48 hours before departure. Guests may be requested to undergo a further PCR test on arrival if they appear to be symptomatic.

Botswana

✅ International borders open with restrictions

A guest entering and exiting Botswana must have a valid PCR negative test no older than 72 hours. Additional to the obligatory negative PCR test result that guests must present, another rapid test will be performed free of charge on arrival. Guests will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon entry and those symptomatic will be required to undertake mandatory testing and possible isolation and/or quarantine.

Mozambique

✅ International borders open with restrictions

Guests will not be required to quarantine on arrival if they present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 no older than 72 hours. Children up to the age of 11 are exempt from the test requirement to enter Mozambique. Guests who do not present a negative COVID-19 will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Kenya

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Guests from countries approved for travel must be in possession of a medical certificate showing a negative PCR COVID-19 test received no more than 96 hours before arrival in Kenya, this includes children of all ages.

Rwanda

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Guests must take a COVID-19 RT-PCR  test in the country of origin at an ISO certified laboratory, 72 hours before travel commences to Rwanda, this includes children of all ages.  Guests will take a second test upon arrival in Kigali. Guests will be expected to isolate and wait up to 24 hours (8 hours for tourists) for results of the second test at designated hotels in Rwanda.

Tanzania

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

All guests must be in possession of a medical certificate showing a negative PCR COVID-19 test received no more than 72 hours before arrival in Tanzania, this includes children of all ages.

Uganda

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Guests from countries approved for travel must be in possession of a medical certificate showing a negative PCR COVID-19 test received no more than 72 hours before arrival in Uganda, children under 3 years of age are exempt.

Mauritius

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

The island will be opening in phases during 2021.  Approved Covid-19 safe resorts are available on www.mauritiusnow.com

Phase 1 of reopening of the borders
Runs until 30 September 2021 allowing vaccinated guests to stay in one of 14 chosen “Resort Bubbles”
Once guests have stayed for 14 days and have negative PCR tests during their stay in the resort, they will then be able to leave the hotel and travel around the island freely. For shorter stays, they may leave the resort earlier and travel back home. Passengers from the Republic of South Africa, Brazil & India are not permitted to enter or transit through Mauritius during the Phase 1

Phase 2 of the reopening of the borders
Begins on 1 October 2021 allowing vaccinated travellers to enter Mauritius without restrictions upon presentation of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

For both phases Non-vaccinated holidaymakers will also be able to visit the island and must complete a 14-day quarantine period in designated hotels.

Maldives

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Stay no longer limited to a single property. Test on arrival with self-quarantine in hotel until result received. UL, EK, EY, QR. plus 6E and SG from India showing flights into MLE. Visa on arrival. Random PCR testing on arrival. All travelers must complete and submit a Health Declaration Form 24 hours before arrival. Masks are mandatory.

Seychelles

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

As of 25th March 2021, the Seychelles will open to all guests irrespective of their vaccination status. South Africa will remain the only country from which visitors will temporarily not be permitted. Guests will be required to present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to arrival and departure. Guests who have been to Bangladesh, Brazil, India and Pakistan within 14 days preceding arrival to Seychelles will NOT be authorised entry. All protocols can be referenced here

India

❌ International Borders Closed for tourists

International borders are still not open for tourists. All other visa holders (business, health, media visas) can now travel to and from India using the ‘bubble’ flights only. All travelers need to submit a self-declaration form online. 7-14 day mandatory quarantine applies unless a negative PCR test can be supplied. Citizens from South Africa, UK and Brazil require a mandatory quarantine regardless of PCR test. All internal (domestic) flights are now operating at close to pre-COVID levels.

Sri Lanka

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Borders are open for tourists. Over 160 ‘Safe & Secure’ hotels have now been approved for guest accommodation. Travelers can only stay within one of these hotels for the first 10 days. But they can move between registered properties and visit approved sites. Only 14 sites are approved for visits in the first 14 days. Travelers who arrive 14 days after receiving the final dose of the vaccine are no longer required to quarantine. Mandatory PCR test on arrival for non-vaccinated travelers. Each passenger has to carry a Health Declaration Form. Pre-booked  PCR tests on arrival, and COVID Insurance are mandatory. PCR tests are mandatory after every 7 days,  and have to be prepaid.

Bhutan

❌ International Borders Closed

Bhutan has recently eased a country wide lockdown. Every adult in the country has now been vaccinated. No Visas are being issued yet. We expect the country will remain closed until October 2021. Bhutan has a 21 day quarantine for all arrivals.

Nepal

✅ International Borders Open with restrictions

Air borders are open. RA, H9 (Himalayan), AI, QR, and TK operating. Land borders are open and vehicles from India are now allowed. Limited trekking and mountaineering permits are being issued. Tourists are now allowed in but the local agent has to get prior authorisation in KTM before the guest departs the home country. People with sanctioned trekking and climbing permits are on the increase. Visas are issued on arrival or at a Nepalese Embassy.  All travellers must have  PCR tests required less than 72 hours old, on arrival, and another test after 5 days/nights of quarantine.

Ecuador

✅ International borders open

Guests entering Ecuador from countries other than Brazil and India, will need to present the following to enter the country: Vaccination card with its complete schedule having been in force 14 days prior to boarding and a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test 72 hours prior to boarding. Upon arrival to the country, the Ministry of Health will carry out random, rapid antigen tests on guests over 14 years old. In the case of a positive antigen test, guests will be required to isolate for 10 days at their own expense in government-approved accommodation. Health officials will also check for any COVID-19 related symptoms and carry out antigen tests on them, if necessary. All guests whose origin, stopover or transit is Brazil or India, must present a negative RT-PCR test result 72 hours prior boarding their flight. This requirement is mandatory for all guests regardless of whether they are already vaccinated or not. All guests whose origin, stopover or transit is Brazil and India and are residents, Ecuadorian citizens or tourists, must undergo preventive isolation for 10 days at their homes or in any place of accommodation at the free choice and cost of the guest, independent of the result of a diagnostic test for COVID-19. The Ministry of Health will be responsible for following up on this provision.

All guests entering the Galápagos Islands will be able to do so with one of the following requirements: Certificate of vaccination (with all required doses) dated at least 14 days before the flight to the Galápagos, or a certificate of a negative PCR or antigen test taken up to 72 hours prior to the flight to Galápagos for guests two years and older.

Peru

⚠️ International borders open with restrictions

Quarantine is not required when entering the country. Guests must have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point; or an antigen test result issued at most 24 hours before departure from the first embarkation point; or an epidemiological medical discharge certificate. This does not apply to guests younger than 12 years. Upon arrival in Peru, guests may undergo an antigen test. If negative, guests do not require preventive quarantine. The cost of the test will be at the guest’s expense. The entry of non-resident guests from South Africa, Brazil and/or India or who have made a stopover in one of the said countries in the last 14 days is suspended until 08 August. The test must be uploaded at http://e-notificacion.migraciones.gob.pe/dj-salud/. Guests must complete an “Affidavit of Health and Geolocation Authorization” at http://e-notificacion.migraciones.gob.pe/dj-salud/ 72 hours before departure. Suspension of visa exemptions for nationals of Korea (Rep.) with normal passport. The authorised capacity of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, located in Cusco, is able to receive a maximum of 897 visitors per day, a figure that represents 40% of its capacity.

Chile

❌ International borders closed

Guests are not allowed to enter Chile, however this does not apply to nationals or residents of Chile. Guests who have been in Brazil during the last 14 days will have to carry out the COVID-19 RT-PCR test at a sanitary residence. Guests could be subject to a random antigen test upon arrival in the country.

Argentina

❌ International borders closed until 06 August 2021

Guests must have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point. This does not apply to guests younger than six years old. Flights from India, UK, Brazil, Chile and Africa are suspended until 06 August 2021. This does not apply to: Nationals or residents of Argentina and non-residents that are spouses, partners with registered partnership, parents, sisters, brothers or children of nationals of Argentina. Guests must sign a digital affidavit to enter the country and must have health insurance to cover any COVID-19 expenses. This does not apply to nationals and residents of Argentina. Guests are subject to a COVID-19 antigen test upon arrival at their own expense and will be subject to seven to 10 day quarantine.

New bookings with &Beyond – Our Certainty promise

&Beyond is committed to monitoring and amending our approach to travel during these uncertain times by providing guests with both flexibility and security during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This Annexure replaces any previous releases and is applicable from 01 August 2021 and remains in place until such time as the restrictions impacting outbound travel from guests home country and/ or inbound travel to the destinations in their respective itineraries (in particular those countries where &Beyond operates) and / or restrictions on operations as a result of government lockdowns are lifted.

Once these conditions are lifted, any booking yet to travel or made under the auspices of this Annexure are subject to &Beyond‘s standard terms and conditions.

The revised Annexure only applies to camps and lodges in the &Beyond portfolio in Africa and South America as well as &Beyond owned or managed services in Asia, Africa and South America. The Terms and conditions offered by; and the application of those terms by partner properties and service providers not owned or managed by &Beyond remain at the sole discretion of these partners and service providers concerned.

NEW BOOKINGS – MAXIMISING FLEXIBILITY

To provide our guests and partners increased flexibility and comfort, &Beyond is offering the following revised terms for new bookings at all &Beyond Camps and Lodges:

  • Extension of all 2020 rates into 2021 at all 29 &Beyond lodges and camps.
  • Any booking made 61 days or more prior to arrival may be held provisionally up to 30 days, with the option to extend.
  • Should &Beyond receive a confirmed booking for the dates/rooms being held provisionally, &Beyond will request the holder of the provisional space to either confirm or release the booking within 72 working hours. Should &Beyond receive no response to this request the booking will be automatically released.
  • Cancelling a confirmed independent traveller/s reservation for the named COVID-19 reasons listed below, is subject to the following:

 

Between Confirmation and 48hrs prior to arrival Credit to the value of monies paid for future travel into any property within the &Beyond portfolio or 100% Refund of monies paid for &Beyond lodges and camps less any applicable fees
Between 48hrs and arrival Credit to the value of monies paid for &Beyond lodges and camps for future travel into any property within the &Beyond portfolio
Cancellation during travel 50% credit for any unused nights at &Beyond lodges or camps for future travel into any property within the &Beyond portfolio

 

The Fine Print:

  • These terms exclude all groups (15 or more guests) and series bookings unless otherwise negotiated and agreed. Unless otherwise agreed &Beyond’s standard terms and conditions will apply for groups or series bookings.
  • These terms specifically relate to &Beyond owned and operated services only. &Beyond endeavours to work with our partner properties and service providers to secure the most flexible terms possible. However, all amendments, reductions, refunds and cancellation policies of partner properties and service providers will be determined at the sole and unfettered discretion of the partner properties and service providers utilized in any itinerary.
  • Due to the fluidity of the global situation, &Beyond requests that bookings made under these terms and conditions delay making any decisions until 60 days prior to travel concerning postponement, cancelation or refunds. Requests for consideration outside of 60 days are at &Beyond’s discretion.
  • Where a refund is requested, these payments will be made less any applicable bank charges.
  • Notifications to defer or cancel should be sent to &Beyond in writing. This notification must be received between 60 and 14 days from travel.
  • &Beyond reserves the right to recover any costs it incurred in preparation for the guests arrival should notification be received between 14 days and date of arrival where:
    • There has been no change to either the outbound or inbound travel restrictions between 60 and 14 days;
    • The traveller has not tested positive for COVID-19 and is within 10 days of travel;
    • The traveller’s flights have not been cancelled by the air carrier or flights have been cancelled but the re-routing of flights is possible;

Cancellation of a booking with no penalty only applies where one or more of the following named COVID-19 reasons for cancellation impacts travel:

  • The government of the guest’s country of residence restricts all but essential travel or enforces a mandatory quarantine stay at a government specified site at the guest’s cost on return from the destinations the guests are travelling to.
  • The destination/s the guests are travelling to are under official government imposed lock-down which prohibits guests from traveling;
  • If the government of the destination/s in which the &Beyond lodges or camps are located has declared that no visas will be issued to travellers from the guest’s country of residence;
  • The destination/s have no formal lock-down but have closed their border either to international travellers or to travellers from the guest’s country of residence;
  • International flights are cancelled with no alternative routing available to reach the destination/s in the itinerary;
  • The guest has contracted COVID-19 and is under treatment or is in quarantine for COVID-19 within 72 hours of travel.

Other:

  • Any reason for cancellation not listed above may be construed as disinclination to travel and &Beyond’s standard cancellation terms and conditions will apply.
  • If some but not all of the destinations are impacted by any of the listed reasons the guest will be offered the option to re-route their itinerary to another &Beyond destination or camp. Any increase in costs as a result of the changes made, guests will be required to settle in full. If there is a decrease in costs as a result of the changes the guest will be refunded or that amount can be held as a credit for future travel.
  • &Beyond reserves the right to ask for any reasonable evidence, written statements and/or supporting documents.

Existing bookings with &Beyond

EXISTING BOOKINGS THAT WOULD LIKE TO POSTPONE TRAVEL TO A FUTURE DATE

In order to accommodate this recognised Force Majeure event and the resulting varying worldwide travel restrictions, guests may elect to postpone their travel for up to a year after the travel date, 60 days prior to travel, and carry forward up to 100% of the booking’s value* to the future booking. If the Force Majeure event is still impacting on travel at the time of the postponed booking’s new travel dates, guests will be able to postpone their travels for a further year.

Bookings seeking to defer from 2021 into 2022:

  • Extension of all 2021 rates into 2022 at all 29 &Beyond lodges and camps during low demand and low season.
  • Price increase of 5% at all 29 &Beyond lodges and camps for bookings deferring from 2021 into 2022 shoulder and high season periods.

Bookings seeking to defer further out than 2022 will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be subject to applicable rates once released.

Should a guest elect to cancel a confirmed booking then &Beyond will charge for costs incurred.

Due to the fluidity of the global situation, &Beyond requests that guests who have booked under these terms and conditions delay making any decisions until 60 days prior to travel concerning postponement, cancelation or refunds. Requests for consideration outside of 60 days are at &Beyond’s discretion.

Notifications to defer or cancel should be sent to &Beyond in writing. This notification must be received between 60 and 14 days from travel.
&Beyond reserves the right to recover any costs it incurred in preparation for the guests arrival should notification be received between 14 days and date of arrival where:

  • There has been no change to either the outbound or inbound travel restrictions between 60 and 14 days;
  • The traveller has not tested positive for COVID 19 and is within 10 days of travel;
  • The traveller’s flights have not been cancelled by the air carrier or flights have been cancelled but the re-routing of flights is possible;
*Booking Value
  • The booking value carried forward will be calculated, less any government mandated costs, or non-&Beyond owned or operated services, whose terms are not aligned to &Beyond‘s.
  • At the time of deferment, &Beyond will clearly communicate what costs are not recoverable and deduct those from the future booking credit.
  • We continue to engage with our partners to align with the terms as set out above but our partners do so at their sole discretion.
  • 2020 rates will be honoured for new travel dates up to and including 31 December 2021
  • If are considering postponing an existing booking to 2022 please contact your travel specialist to enquire about potential rate changes before making a decision to defer.
  • Should the future booking be for travel in a different season, or availability of services means that the costs of the logistics, activities, or accommodation has increased, those price changes will be passed on.

Community Resilience to COVID-19

COVID-19 is on the move – at warp speed – and Africa’s vulnerable communities need our help: none more so than those situated in the remote areas surrounding our lodges. We are supporting our community development partner, Africa Foundation, in its call for assistance.

The various restrictions imposed by the countries where we operate in the context of COVID-19 have forced most of our projects with Africa Foundation to be temporarily suspended. While these will restart as soon as possible, we believe that, in the meantime, it is critical to increase the resilience of rural communities to the threat posted by COVID-19. For this reason, they have re-prioritized a number of projects, particularly those to do with the provision of water. We are also supporting Africa Foundation with their fundraising efforts for:

  • Borehole creation, which will provide clean, safe and accessible water
  • The provision of Hippo Water Rollers, 90 litre barrels that roll easily over the ground, providing an easy means of transport and storage for large volumes of fresh water
  • The provision of basic supplies to clinics in rural areas

CONSERVATION ACTIVITIES

While we believe that protecting rural communities is one of the best things that we can currently do to protect the land and the wildlife, the wildlife-management and conservation activities are continuing at &Beyond lodges during the COVID-19 crisis.

Many of our lodges throughout Africa are situated within national parks, which are run according to government regulations. Recognizing that the security of these reserves will be one of the main challenges faced during this time, we have retained skeleton staff at all our &Beyond lodges and camps. While strict social distancing measures are being applied to ensure the health of these staff members, their presence in the field serves a vital security function. With no tourists and far fewer numbers of vehicles moving through the reserves at the moment, there is currently a far higher risk of poaching, something that we can go a long way towards offsetting by keeping a basic number of staff moving around the reserve.

At private reserves such as Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa, where the land is owned and managed by &Beyond, additional security measures have been implemented. In addition our teams are working closely with local community leaders to bring accessible, clean water to rural clinics, orphans and vulnerable children, care centres and homes.
